Pakistan won the first One Day International by a convincing 8 wicket margin after winning the toss and asking the home side to bat first. Two early strikes from paceman Adnan Ghani and one from Naeem Baig, two to fine catches behind the wicket by Muhammad Hussan put the visitors in a strong position before England skipper Umesh Valje and Stefan Pichowski steadied the ship The introduction of Muhammad Shakeel saw the demise of Valjee for 25. and. Nigel Davenport soon followed chasing a wide delivery and Pichowski was run out going for a risky second run for 27. It needed a stand of 36 for the ninth wicket between Blyth Duncan and Darrell Sykes to give the total some respectability. Eventually Duncan was run out after being sent back for 20 and Sykes was bowled in the last over for 19. There were two wickets for Adnan, Naeem and Shakel in England's final total of 165 all out in 49.5 overs
Pakistan's openers, Zaka Ahmed and Muhammad Iqbal, started briskly and had added 27 in good time before a brilliant pick up and throw from Steven George saw Iqbal run out for 15. Pakistan's skipper Zaka proved hard to dislodge playing a series of superb cover drives. He passed a well deserved half century losing Nabbeel Aslam to a finger injury. He was eventually dismissed driving a low return catch to Steven George for 79 containing 11 boundaries. Shahzad Mirza saw Pakistan home with 40 not out as the visitors won by eight wickets. Zaka Ahmed deservedly won the Man of the Match for his 79.

DAY ONE
Winning the toss, England asked Pakistan to bat first and the visitors got off to brisk start until a bowling change brought Mike O'Mahony and Steven George together. George produced special delivery to dismiss the Pakistan skipper, Zaka, and the scoring rate fell considerably. A fine spell of spin by Nigel Davenport earned him figures of 5-61 backed up by the variations of O'Mahony. Another superb run out from Stephen George got rid off Naseer for 98 as the innings closed at 303.
Ben Young and Chris Hughes started solidly but unfortunately Hughes was run out after a misunderstanding as England ended the day on 31-1.
DAY TWO
England resumed at 31-1 but lost Stefan Pichowski early on. A partnership of 47 between Ben Young and Umesh Valjee took the score to 94 before Valjee was caught and bowled for 13. At lunch Ben Young was unbeaten on 84 with the total 150-5. On the resumption Young was bowled for a superb 91 and further wickets fell regularly until a stabilizing stand between Darrell Sykes 25 and Steven George 29* added 59 before Sykes was out. Farooq followed soon after as England were all out for 255, a deficit of 48 runs. In Pakistan's second innings Sykes bowled a very fast opening spell and made an early break through bowling the dangerous Pakistan skipper, Zaka, for 3. However, despite England's efforts the Pakistan pair remained undefeated to close at 70-1.
DAY THREE
England made an early breakthrough but Pakistan accumulated runs steadily to be 193-2 at lunch with Shahzad on 114. Surprisingly the visitors batted on for over an hour after lunch as the spinners Nigel Davenport and Stefan Pichowski put the brakes on the run rate, before declaring on 284-4 leaving ECAD a target of 332 in 50 overs. After an early scare at 15-2 Umesh Valjee and Mike O'Mahony added 83 with Valjee reaching a well deserved half century. The captain's agreed to close early and stumps were drawn with ECAD 98-2.

Heavy overnight rainfall which led to the cancellation of the second ODI and as the ground was unfit for a Test Match it was decided to play a Twenty/20 match. ECAD batted sensibly early on with Ben Young 29 and Mike O'Mahony 29 leading the way.A swift 17 from Nigel Davenport saw the home side reach 123 in their allotted overs, a competitive total in the conditions. The Pakistan openers came out with all guns blazing but lost a succession of wickets to some rash shots. The accuracy of Nigel Davenport 4 overs for 5 runs and Blyth Duncan 4-25 from 4 overs saw the visitors struggling. Stefan Pichowski and Stephen George kept up the pressure with impressive spells both taking two wickets for single figures. The Pakistan innings petered out at 72-8 with Luke Newton pouching three catches. The innings closed with ECAD victorious by 51 runs. |

A second fifty over match was rearranged after the ground failed to dry sufficiently and Pakistan won the toss and batted first. Once again Blyth Duncan proved to be difficult to get away as he took 3-27 in his ten overs ably supported by Darrell Sykes. Nigel Davenport also proved frugal as Pakistan were in some trouble at 74-6. However stubborn resistance from the tail saw the total edged up to 186 when they were dismissed. Umesh Valjee and Ben Young took the sting out of the new ball attack but the left arm seam and swing of Naeem proved decisive as he took the first four wickets. Mike O'Mahony held the innings together and when Stefan Pichowski joined him a stand of 43 developed. On Pichowski's dismissal, the tail fell away and despite O'Mahony's fine 58, ECAD were bowled out for 131 with nearly eight overs to spare. |

ECAD won by 25 runs
ECAD defended a below par total to clinch a 25 run success. After being asked to bat first, Ben Young and Umesh Valjee started confidently and had taken the total to 25 before Young was caught. Valjee continued to score freely until he was stumped for 29. Mike O'Mahony continued the run chase but after his dismissal for 34 the innings fell away with a series of run outs. Darrell Sykes boosted the total at the end including a large six but the total of 104 did not appear large enough. The Pakistanis seemed to want the game over quickly and wickets fell to a series of expansive shots. Steven George 2-14 and Blyth Duncan 3-15 soon had the innings in disarray at 28-5. Darrell Sykes 2-22 and Nigel Davenport 2-13 continued the pressure as wickets continued to fall and the innings was ended in the 18th over with ECAD running out 25 run victors
Blyth Duncan was named Man of the Match for his 3 wickets. |

ECAD won by 3 wickets
A disciplined batting display ensured ECAD shared the One Day Series with a thrilling 3 wicket win. Pakistan opted to bat first on a green track and were soon in disarray as Stephen George and Blyth Duncan bowled their allocation straight through both bowling tight lines and claiming two wickets each. At 20 overs the total stood at 39-4. The recovery was mounted through Adnan initially and then a stand between Hassan and Gohar made Pakistan 's total look respectable at 166. ECAD started uneasily and when Ben Young was dismissed the score was 40-3. However a patient stand of 55 between Umesh Valjee and Mike O'Mahony steadied the ship but when O'Mahony was bowled for 32 there was still much to do. Valjee continued in his anchor role as Nigel Davenport hit out to ease the home sides worries. He hit a boundary and a huge six into the pavilion but was trapped leg before soon after. The re introduction of Adnan saw the end of Valjee for a stoic 45 and the stage was set for Stephen George and Darrell Sykes to take the side to victory with some speedy running between the sticks. A two with a couple of balls to spare gave ECAD the win and a share of the One Day series. Adnan Ghani was named man of the Match for his all round contribution. |
